Server hardware question for annodex application

Hi all,

I'm putting together a grant application to help development and use
of arkaiv - a media annotation application I have been developing
(http://svn.annodex.net/arkaiv). I will try and get some funds for a
dedicated server as streaming from my desktop machine might get a bit
unwieldy :)

Any suggestions as to good hardware to go for? Probably looking at
only 20 or 30 concurrent connections max in the closed trial (but the
code is open of course) over the next year or so.

Had a quick look at places like this -
http://www.vgcomputing.com.au/lsvgcomp.html - so any other suggestions
much appreciated.

Cheers,

Denis

Are you keen to use a local machine as your server? Otherwise it may
well be better for you to look at an Amazon server. You can get one of
them for fairly cheap and when you reach a boundary (memory-wise or
disk-wise) you can always scale up dynamically. Unless you are doing
lots and lots of bandwidth, the Amazon servers are actually really
good price.

Cheers,
Silvia.

also look at the cheap xen hosting companies like prgmr.com or
slicehost.com. You can get a bare server for about $10/mo.
